Our letter supports a campaign by the U.S. Campaign to End the Death Penalty, Death Penalty Action, and other organizations.
It asks Tennessee Governor Bill Lee to pause the scheduled execution until the state can complete fingerprint and DNA testing. Fingerprints and DNA from the scene don’t match those of Tony Carruthers.
The execution is scheduled for May 21, 2026. Testing could be completed before then.
