SUMMARY

Our letter supports a campaign by Earthjustice. It asks the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM, Department of the Interior) to continue to reject BP’s deepwater drilling project. BOEM rejected the proposed project once, but BP has a chance to resubmit it. The project is inherently dangerous and cannot be made safe.

The proposed project would be BP’s first completely new oil field in the Gulf since the Deepwater Horizon incident, but this time at greater depths, where conditions are so extreme that the project would require still-emerging technologies to withstand the extraordinary pressure and heat.
